Hello friends, today I will tell you about how you can turn a “Team Site” template site, which has the old experience on Sharepoint Online, that is, a classic structure, into a site with a modern design through Sharepoint interfaces.

As you can see, we have an old sharepoint online site with the classic experience above, and here I will move it to the modern experience without any data loss.

To do this, we click on the settings icon at the top right of our site and click on the “Connect to new Microsoft 365 Group” link under the “SharePoint” main heading in the “Settings” right menu that opens.

In this option, a right popup screen as above will open and it will share with you information about the changes to your site, as well as the features that will come in the new experience. If these are OK for you, we proceed by pressing the “Let’s get started” button to start the process.

Since in the first step of the process, a Microsoft 365 group must be created and connected to this site for the new modern experience, a popup will appear with information about this group and where you can set the properties of this group to be created. In this section, after completing the settings for your own site, we proceed by pressing the “Connect group” button.

In the last step, you will see a screen where you can select the people you want to add to the Microsoft 365 group you created in the previous section, and detailed information about the features and management of the users added to the group. You can do this later, or you can add it now or leave it blank if it is not available and complete our process with the “Finish” button.

This process will be completed in seconds and your site will be prepared with its new modern look as above.

On the Sharepoint admin center side, the site template will appear as “Team site (classic experience)”. In fact, if you pay attention to the new homepage url address, you will see that it is “/SitePages/Home(1).aspx” and if you try to go to the old homepage as “/SitePages/Home.aspx” you will reach it.
